The Dubna choral school of boys and young men was founded in 1983. Today it holds 270 boys and 30 young men. It is the only State choral school for boys in the Moscow region, where as well as singing in the choir, they learn musical theory, the history of music, musical instruments (piano, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, accordeon and some Russian traditional instuments) - solo and in orchestral groups. They also have vocal technique training.
The School has five choirs : the preparatory choir (for 4-5-6 year-olds), the younger choir (7 year-olds), the candidate choir (8-10 year-olds), the concert choir (11-14 year-olds), and the men's group (for graduates of the school).
The concert choir's repertoire consists mainly of Russian spiritual music, Russian and European classical and contemporary works, Russian folk songs and traditional songs from other countries.
Highly qualified teachers, by regularly attending musical seminars all over Russia and collaborating with foreign collegues, contribute to the cultural promotion of the School.
The School has a very active concert life. Its boy's voices have rung in the best concert halls of the former Soviet Union's main cities : Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Vilnius, Sverdlovsk, Tallin and so on. During the past five years, the concert choir of boys and young men has accomplished many successful tours in most European countries. The young singers have been applauded in Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium. This represents fantastic experience for all the participants : new friends, mixed concerts, seminars, contacts with some main figures of the musical world - all this garantees them rapid promotion. The Dubna choral school is a laureate of many international festivals. In 1992 the concert choir won the international choir concert in Neerpelt, Belgium (1st prize with distinction). In 1995 the men's group came first in the international festival in Neuchatel, Switzerland. The School has many traditions, among which is the exchange with other cultural and artistic groups worldwide. The founder and artistic manager of the Dubna choral school is Olga Mironova, who is entitled to the order of cultural merit in Russia.
